Camp Potters Hill, Shimla

Thinking of camping in the hills?  Now, if hotels are not your thing, and roads and shops teeming with tourists are a big turn off, don’t think twice. Head straight to Camp Potters Hill and say: Alohomora Potters Hill! Soon this Himalayan Chamber of Secrets would unlock itself. Kissing the skies at an altitude of 2050 mtrs, and sprawling over 100 Hectares of pine, cedar and oak forest, Camp Potters Hill is the ultimate haven for those who want to communicate with nature. The Hill once used by Potters to obtain clay has now taken the shape of a Luxury Camping Resort near Shimla, one of its kind in the Country. It is located at a distance of 5km from Shimla. And if you wish to come by train you can get down at Summer Hill, the last station of the famous Toy Train. It’s a mere kilometer away from here.

Camp Potter’s Hill is a twelve-month destination. Camping in tents is a delightful change after escaping from the noise and bustle of our daily work. As part of the eco-tourism drive the designers of the Camp have made sure that nothing clashes with the beauty of the natural surroundings. There is nothing virtually that would disturb you. Just relax and un-wind yourself. Every sight and sound inspires a spirit of rest, peacefulness and great fun.

Summers (April to June) brace up with warm days and chilly nights. Temperature hovers between 14 oC to 27oC accompanied with mild drizzle every now and then. During Monsoons (July to September) the place becomes scenic as the heavy monsoon rains cause the rivers to swell and waterfalls to cascade spectacularly.  Winter (November to mid- February) cloaks the Camp with snowfall. The cool nip in the air may well have you stocking up in colourful shawls, mufflers and caps around the warmth of a fireplace. You can spend time aiming snowballs or make your own “snowman” with your family and friends. Night temperatures dip to 0oC while the day remains pleasant at 16oC.

There are ample of adventure delights to savour for naturalists, trekkers, painters, bird watchers, holidayers and school kids on vacation. From trekking expeditions to river rafting, you can soak yourself in all the action, virtually, from dawn to dusk. The world famous sunset awaits you at 6:00 pm. A round of hot tea/coffee at the machaan would help you know more about this mysterious sunset! There is bar-be-que & campfire in the nights, which is perfect, and a great way to get together with your friends and new found ones.
